Section 44 of the Crime and Policing Act 2026 recently achieved Royal Assent, this section removed the requirement to have a specific authority on your FAC to hold a moderator. The new law reducing this to only having to possess a relevant FAC/SGC.
This has now been enacted via The Crime and Policing Act 2026 (Commencement No.1 and Saving Provision) Regulations 2026 and has commenced from Monday 29th June 2026.
Therefore a variation is no longer required to acquire a moderator if you already hold a licence. We recommend contacting your Licencing Authority if you already have moderators on your ticket or existing unused authorities for one to discuss the implications.
