Air Section The Air Section benefits from two unique features within the WRPC. Firstly, there is an option to become an "air only" member of the club. This allows people interested in using air weapons but not wishing to use firearms or possess a Firearms Certificate to use the clubs facilities. All new air only members are given a compulsary training/safety lesson by the club's Air Training Officer before they are allowed to use the range. Secondly, a 10-lane section of C range (25 metre) is dedicated to Air Weapons with a range of knockdown hunting targets. Both air only and full members of the WRPC have full access to this range which is excellent for getting in a bit of plinking practice or zeroing a rifle prior to a hunting session. The dedicated Air Range has seen a huge change in 2011 following a major facelift by the members. The path has been extended in front of the targets so no more walking in thick mud during the Winter. The butts behind the target boards have been cleared of weeds and rubbish and the retaining boards have been reinforced. The target boards have been levelled and spaced out which has left room in the centre of the range. This has been filled by 6 knockdown soldiers and a frame with 8 spinners of different sizes. There are also 5 knockdown animal/bird targets, 3 of which are also resettable with a shot to the lower plate while the others have pull strings. There are regular competitions held throughout the year, these are split between open competitions and special "springer only" competitions. In addition, an annual open competition is held for the Dave Jenkins cup (below). There is a wealth of knowledge within this section and new members are guaranteed a warm welcome, from the regular members, following their compulsory range safety training session. Non members can try out the range on a maximum of two occasions under the Wedgnock insurance policy but must then apply for membership in order to be covered by this policy. The policy also covers shooters outside of Wedgnock with some exceptions and the Range Manager has full details. New members are always welcome so look at the “how to join” section to request an application form All new Air Rifle members receive a 1 hour tuition session on safe range conduct and are issued with a welcome pack. A copy of which can be downloaded below.
